  • “The State of the Union on AWP Litigation: Current Status on Major AWP Cases, Recent Verdicts and Settlements, and Trends.” Presented by John Kern, a partner in one of the nation’s preeminent law firms, Manatt, Phelps & Phillips. Delving into the murky waters of AWP Litigation, Mr. Kern will deliver an update on and summary of: the AWP Multidistrict Litigation in Boston; the recent settlement in the First DataBank/McKesson AWP case and how the inevitable reduction in the value of published AWPs (and the looming discontinuance of AWP as a benchmark) will affect the reimbursement landscape; the status of state court AWP Medicaid cases; and the trends – what’s next in AWP litigation? Are pharmacies the next defendants?
  • “Reinventing Trade Sales: A Call to Action on How Trade Will Change in the Future.” Presented by Rich Wartel, Founder, Two Labs Marketing. Trade Sales is currently in a state of rapid transition. Moving from simple supply chain managers to a more integrated approach, Trade Sales is reinventing itself and its position within pharmaceutical organizations through redefining their roles and educating themselves on the latest in development tools. Mr. Wartel’s seminar will provide an overview of the future role of trade and some of the tools available to re-invent themselves within pharma manufacturers.

  • Medication Error Reduction Strategies: How Reporting Errors Makes a Difference.” Presented by Donna Horn, RPh, DPh, Director of Patient Safety – Community Pharmacy, Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP). The ISMP Medication Errors Reporting Program (MERP), operated by ISMP, is a confidential national voluntary reporting program that provides expert analysis of the system causes of medication errors and disseminates recommendations for prevention. Regulatory agencies and manufacturers are notified of needed changes in products when safety is of concern. The ISMP MERP has been successful in collecting reports about medication errors, analyzing the reports, and publishing our findings about the causes of errors and safe practice recommendations. This session will focus on examples of the impact of the ISMP reporting program, including regulatory and industry responses to specific ISMP recommendations to reduce certain medication error types.
  • “Hot Wired: Transforming Healthcare Through Information Technology.” Presented by Maria Friedman, DBA, President, Brookside Consulting Firm. Dr. Friedman will deliver an insightful level-setting presentation on health information technology today. The program will focus on e-prescribing issues: where we are, how we got there, and where we’re going from here, as well as adoption facilitators and barriers to e-prescribing.
  • “Medication Therapy Management: MTM 360 - The Complete Solution”.  Presented by Pam Sessions, MS, PMP, MTM Product Manager, Gold Standard/Elsevier.  MTM 360 has been developed to assist in meeting the needs of CMS’s 2010 Call Letter mandates and beyond while helping streamline the medication therapy management process.  Providers are facing increasing challenges with higher medication therapy management program (MTMP) enrollments, including managing greater volumes as well as complying with more complex data collection and reporting requirements.  Ms. Sessions will provide an overview of Elsevier’s turnkey MTM 360 solution and insight on how users can satisfy mandatory and voluntary MTMP program needs and requirements.
